Come join Josephine Chan in the taking of tea, and explore what it means to move beyond the rush of daily routines in child care life, to creating meaningful rituals within these routines. Practice the art of slowing down, attuning and re-thinking the everydayness of the routines you perform with children, and leave with the creation of an action plan of where and how to begin evolving your own teaching practice and child care centre culture. Josephine will guide participants to define relationship-based pedagogy, taking inspiration from the BC Early Learning Framework; reflect on the image of the child, image of the teacher and image of early childhood education; participate in a sharing circle; and create a plan for evolving one (or a few routines) within your teaching practice that will allow space for meaningful rituals to emerge.
**Participants are encouraged to bring a teacup or mug from home with personal meaning, and a notebook for action planning.**

Presenter Information
Josephine Chan holds a Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Care and Education from Capilano University, and is a Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance. She created Metta Kids Yoga in response to the high burn-out levels she was seeing from her teaching peers and parents alike, and how this was impacting the children in her classrooms. She believes the growing awareness for children to learn skills in self-regulation and emotional literacy could only be effective if the adults in their lives learned these skills alongside. Josephine teaches these skills through yoga and mindfulness to children, parents and teachers, and has worked with educators in Canada, the UK, and China. She has been featured on Gaia TV, writing and filming children’s yoga programming for online and home practice. Josephine’s mission is to provide the early learning community and families with life-long tools for the mental health, well-being and resilience. More about Josephine can be found on MettaKidsYoga.com.
