Ordinary Material has the possibility of uncovering creative potential and deepening our understandings of the world around us. Rich in textures, colours, and designs, both handmade and manmade materials can be used as “tools for thinking” that in turn facilitate natural curiosity and discovery.
Driven by exploration and inquiry, this class will evoke a sense of connectedness with the ‘materials’ around us and, at the same time, encourage us to become aware of our responses, ways we engage with the materials and possible learning stories.
Participants will have a chance to explore different materials such as a collection of ‘loose parts’, wood, paper and fibre as well as their compositional dynamics and leave the class with a small tactile inspiration and a list of resources.
