BIO: As a small child, Tricia Edgar loved to sit outside and look into the branches of the cherry tree in her backyard watching the flowers drift to the ground. As an adult, she plays in the mud with her children, plants flowers and food, and shares her enthusiasm for science curriculum, outdoor education, local food and gardening with others. She is a long time outdoor educator, with over 20 years of experience developing outdoor and science education curriculum. She teaches all ages, from toddlers to adults. Tricia is the program director of Fresh Air Learning, a society that brings all season play-based, place-based learning to children in the Metro Vancouver area.
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: Nature is a wonderful teacher, and free play in natural places is important for children’s early learning and sense of place. Discover why adult mentors play such an important role in nature education. Learn about the growing movement towards forest schools and how you can incorporate elements of this style of outdoor learning into your own classroom. If you don’t have a forest or a stream nearby, how can you provide excellent outdoor learning opportunities for your students?
