Empathy is an important component of emotional literacy. How can we help young children understand their own feelings and
recognize each other’s feelings? We will explore ways to support emotional language development and discuss the influence of
temperament traits and intrinsic motivation.

Jacky Huckin
Presenter Information
Jacky has worked in the child care field for over 30 years, including the past 14 years at the YMCA Child Care Resource and Referral program providing support and training to child care providers. She has facilitated a Roots of Empathy program in School District #43 for 10 years and is currently an Appetite to Play program facilitator. Jacky is passionate about healthy development opportunities for young children with responsive child care programming using natural materials and outdoor experiences.
